Mark Phillips has successfully lead technology and software development efforts for many years. He has held executive positions at various early-stage technology companies in Silicon Valley. These include CTO and Vice President of Engineering positions at Insession, Angara, General Magic and Knowmadic.

Mark has also been involved in a software partnership which acquired software companies, growing them and then successfully existing the merged entities.

He began his career at IBM and Tandem Computers. Mr. Phillips earned a master of science degree in physics from Oxford University. He holds 15 patents.

Mark will briefly tell about the history of Silicon Valley and give the description of Geography, where major companies are located. Then he will tell about Venture Capital companies, how they raise funding, where the money comes from, A, B C series and what it means. Mark will also explain how typical startups are started, where they get ideas, how they collect funding, and grow. And finally he will tell how startups go pubic and describe the IPO process.
